Artistic estates are rarely finished archives. Many remain, for years, in a process of ordering, documenting, and researching — while the connections between works only gradually come into view, and new questions arise.

The estates presented here offer a view into this in-between state. The profiles document work groups, available sources, the current state of processing, and open research questions. They are not meant as a conclusive art-historical assessment, but as a snapshot of an ongoing process of inquiry.

The selection is curated. Artist and collector estates are presented by invitation of Die Kunstagentin. Different stages and situations of estate work are deliberately placed side by side.
